Daily UX writing challenge. Day #4

Headshot of Craig.

Craig Wright

As a technical writer, I know about creating user-centred content.  But I've never worked as an out-and-out UX writer (although I have written microcopy for software as part of my tech writing work). I'd like to explore the world of UX writing, so I decided to do the Daily UX challenge set by https://www.dailyuxwriting.com.

Here's the day 4 (of 15) challenge.

Scenario

A user is in their favorite supermarket. They open the supermarket’s app on their phone to see what’s on sale and are greeted by a promotion.

Challenge

Write a promotional home screen for a subscription service that delivers groceries to the user once-a-month for a flat fee. .

  • Headline (45 characters max)

  • Body (175 characters max)

  • Buttons (25 characters max).

My answer

Your favourite groceries delivered to your door. Get your shopping without the hassle of travelling and queues. We'll deliver all of your favourites each month for just £7.99. Subscribe now, cancel at any time. A button for Sign up and a button for Maybe later.

I went for the tried and tested copywriting technique of benefits first on this one. The headline and bulk of the copy focus on the benefits to the user and what's on offer. A simple, direct message.

As it is a subscription service, I also wanted to include the cancel at any time part. Just so that users know they are not tied into this service for long periods.

Looking for a UX writer?

Do you need a UX writer for your project? I'd love to hear from you. I've worked in software teams for most of my career as a technical writer and have trained as a content designer and copywriter too. I know about user journeys, work flows, and user-centred content. Microcopy, long form content, I can do it all.
